As a logistics company, we are aware that estimations from the International Transport Forum (ITF) suggest that our industry accounts for around 30% of all transport- related CO2 emissions from fuel combustion, and more than 7% of global emissions. The nature of our work means that, unfortunately, emissions will always be higher than other industries who do not require constant travel as part of their business model.
With the increase of ecommerce and online orders for day to day items, the use of logistics is set to increase, thus increasing the emissions into the environment.
However, we are also aware that there are lots of things we can do to reduce emissions, even a 1% reduction is a positive step and we are always looking at small marginal gains to improve our business and minimise our carbon footprint.
Here are some of the things we actively do to reduce our carbon footprint:
At Think Expo Logistics, a lot of time and planning goes into ensuring we are utilising optimal routes to ensure a quick turnaround time for our customers, but also a route that uses the least amount of fuel and therefore, reduces emissions.
In addition to this, we also work closely with our customers to plan in advance and wherever possible, will have multiple customer loads in one vehicle when attending the same show. For example, if we have three customer loads in one truck when heading to an exhibition, there is our one vehicle on the road rather than them each having different transportation.
We are a tech led company and our app allows us to minimise the paperwork utilised without our business. Our customers can access the app to see all their shipping documents in one place, this saves on printing and posting documents as well as minimising paper waste following successful shipment.
Lastly, we also use light weight, sustainable packaging which lightens the load and therefore, uses less fuel. Of course, sustainable packaging also allows us to reuse and recycle once the shipment is complete.
